Altrogge on Worship (and raising your hands in Church)

Meeting Mark Altrogge taught me many things. This is one of the notables.

Easy Steps to Raising Your Hands in Church

1.) Remember, the worship must always begin with the heart.

2.) Walk into a forest far enough so that no one can see or hear you. Then lift up your hands and shout as loud as you can, HALLELUJAH!

3.) Sing worship songs in your room (loudly) and raise your hands where no one can see you.

4.) Start small. Perhaps with your arms at a 45 degree angle and your palms facing up. This would bring your wrists to approximately waist level. Next sunday try the 90 degree. This may be a technique that will need a few more Sundays. Then all you have to do is turn your hands so your knuckles face you and work your way up from there.

5.) There is a big difference between praise and being a distraction. Tact is a must. Flags, banners and ribbons in perpetual motion have the potential to catch the eye in a negative way.

6.) Though various assemblies may have differing opinions on appropriate levels of enthusiasm, the worship should not merely stay within the heart.

I'm wondering how or why it would be hard to raise one's hands in praise and worship. Jesus is the answer. When we were in school and we knew the answer, what would we do? Raise our hands. ;-)

Hmmm... what's in the heart will eventually work it's way out? Sounds familiar... (Lk 6.45)

Jlf81, I think Mark stole the whole heart thing from Piper, who steals from Augustine, who stole from the Bible. cool.
